NEW: The Integral Intake:

A Guide to Comprehensive Idiographic

Assessment in Integral Psychotherapy

Routledge, 2008
By Andre Marquis
Assistant Professor of Counseling and Human Development
University of Rochester

This book describes integral theory, assessment via the integral intake and how they both pertain to the practice of integral psychotherapy. The Integral Intake is a thorough yet efficient assessment instrument developed by Andre Marquis; the goal of this comprehensive intake form is to provide the practitioner with a wealth of background information about clients as early as possible in the course of therapy. The intake form not only gathers extensive information about each client, it also organizes the information - making it easier for therapists to quickly and effectively formulate optimal courses of therapy for each unique client. The book provides an in-depth exposition of the relevance of integral theory as an integrative framework for psychotherapists and includes a CD with:
-the Integral Intake form in English, Spanish, and French
-a sample introductory letter to new clients in English, Spanish and French
-a newly developed psychiatric version of the Integral Intake form
The book also includes practical guidelines for evaluation and treatment planning as well as a 70-page chapter focusing on two case-studies that present actual clients’ completed Integral Intakes, how they were interpreted, the treatment plans constructed, and how the actual courses of therapy proceeded.

Endorsements from the back of the book:

“The Integral Intake is a superb book—clearly written, theoretically sound, practically oriented, and desperately needed. Highly recommended for the professional and interested laypersons, it gives a much-needed integrated approach to the entire field of psychotherapy, and hence is truly groundbreaking.”
- Ken Wilber, Founder, Integral Institute

“Andre Marquis has modeled a better way in this volume. It is a truly integral book that has taken a bold map of the human experience and carefully crafted it into a workable set of instructions that guide the therapeutic process from start to finish.”
- from the foreword, by Elliott Ingersoll, PhD, PCC, Professor of Counseling, Administration, Supervision, & Adult Learning, Cleveland State University

“This is a substantial and thoroughly readable book presenting a rationally-derived, systematic, and more comprehensive approach to the challenge of assessment in counseling and psychotherapy. The author offers many original, theoretically stimulating, and practical ideas, and the forms on the accompanying CD will help a wide range of therapists actually apply the novel theoretical issues discussed in the book.”
- Adam Blatner, MD, author of Foundations of Psychodrama and editor of Improvisational and Interactive Drama

"Dr. Marquis has provided both a thorough explanation of how to use the most comprehensive client intake instrument I've seen and the most detailed explication of how Ken Wilber's Integral Theory is important to the work of therapists. This book is a must for any mental health professional dedicated to a holistic understanding of their clients."
- Janice Miner Holden, EdD, Professor, Counseling Program, Interim Chair, Department of Counseling and Higher Education, University of North Texas
