I agree. Explorations of human suffering invariably open a doorway to soul-searching about meaning and meaninglessness. Journal editors generally request me to edit out references to spiritual work (not SEPI). Frustrating and inexplicable. Here is one of my favorite quotes from Eigen's Psychoanalytic Mystic:
God contracted to make room for the world. This resulted in divine sparks being buried in dead and evil places. It is up to us to recover these sparks and untie God with himself. Bion (1977) has gone into realms of evil and deadness, and redeemed what he couldhelping us live with what is unredeemable, although we do not know exactly what that might be. Wherever we turn (including sub-zero worlds of infinite horror and deadness) there is much we can do, together with the ever present can't (Eigen, 1998, p. 64).
