Dear Dr. Moore,
As you no doubt know, there is so far only a limited literature on this topic. I reported a case as part of my paper in JAPA 1996 ("Compulsion and Addiction"), and Johnson wrote up a case in J Substance Abuse Treatment, 1992. I have not found that people with alcoholism (or other addictions) have any more tendency to regress more quickly or have less tolerance for affects than other people. I also would be interested to hear others' experience.
