Training in Adult Psychoanalysis
The New York Psychoanalytic Institute was established in 1931 as the first psychoanalytic training center in the country. Applicants to the program must have attained an M.D. degree, a Ph.D. degree in psychology or a doctoral degree in social work. Approximately forty students are presently in training at the Institute. The curriculum of the professional school consists of the student's own personal analysis, four years of classes in the various aspects of psychoanalytic theory and technique, and the treatment of patients in analysis under the supervision of experienced, senior analysts. The faculty provides all teaching and supervision on a voluntary, unpaid basis. The Institute is regarded as one of the most prestigious training centers for psychoanalysis in the world.

The Foundation's Goals

  • To Fund scholarships for applicants in need of financial aid.
For psychoanalysis to remain an important modality of treatment and forpsychoanalytic ideas to continue to influence the way the mind is understood, qualified professionals must be trained. Many interested and qualified students are presently deterred from pursuing their studies because of the high cost of their education. Students interested in research and the neurosciences particularly need assistance to fund an analytic education.

Contributions to The New York Psychoanalytic Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent provided by law.
